Illinois authorities have arrested an individual in connection to a deadly shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Illinois on Monday afternoon, according to police.
The suspected gunman, identified as 22-year-old Robert “Bobby” Crimo III, opened fire from a rooftop on an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago on Monday, killing at least six people, wounding more than 2 dozens, and sending hundreds of marchers, parents with strollers and children on bicycles fleeing in terror, according to police.
Crimo, a fervent supporter of former President Donald Trump and 2nd amendment fanatic, remained on the loose hours later as authorities scoured the area. He was considered armed and dangerous.
The July 4 shooting was just the latest in a series of mass shootings across the United States. Schools, churches, grocery stores, and now community parades have all become killing grounds in recent months. This time, the bloodshed came as the nation tried to find cause to celebrate its founding and the bonds that still hold it together.
Jennifer Banek, the coroner for Lake County said five adults were killed on the scene of the shooting, and one person died at a hospital. At least 25 other people were injured.
