MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough strongly criticized Donald Trump for openly expressing his desire for a U.S. economic crash within the next 12 months to boost his chances of re-election.
During an interview aired Monday, the former president, while crediting his administration for the robust job market, paradoxically asserted that the economy was “fragile” and inevitable to crash. He then expressed his hope for this crash to occur before a potential re-election, seemingly aiming to avoid accountability.
“We have an economy that is incredible. We have an economy that is so fragile,” Trump said before claiming that the economy is “running off the fumes” of what the Trump administration did.
“and… when there’s a crash, I hope is gonna be during this next 12 months,” he added.
The “Morning Joe” host deemed trump’s comments as disqualifying from holding elected office.
Scarborough highlighted Trump’s self-centered admission on television, emphasizing the ex-president’s willingness for Americans to swiftly lose their jobs, savings, and 401(k)s, all in the pursuit of electoral victory. He portrayed Trump as desperate enough to jeopardize the financial well-being of the public over the next 12 months.
Contrary to Trump’s claims, Scarborough argued that economists across the political spectrum acknowledge the current strength and resilience of the economy. Even conservative voices, like Wall Street Journal editor Gerard Baker, who is not a supporter of Joe Biden, recognized the United States economy as a major winner in 2023, describing it as robust and resilient.
