Donald Trump has once again ignited outrage, this time for his callous handling of a tragic event. During a campaign rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Trump not only recalled an assassination attempt on himself but also made disturbing remarks about the widow of a man killed in the attack.

Earlier this month, a former fire chief, Corey Comperatore, was tragically killed when a bullet meant for Trump struck him. At a subsequent rally, Trump awkwardly acknowledged Comperatore’s death by holding a moment of silence, but then proceeded to use the tragedy as fodder for his characteristic insensitivity.

Trump’s unsettling comments about Comperatore’s widow — “But you know? Corey’s wife said, ‘I’d rather have my husband.’ Isn’t that good? I know a lot of wives that would not say that, sorry.” — were met with disdain and revulsion.

His remarks, framed as a joke, were greeted with laughter from his supporters, but the reaction on social media was swift and brutal.

Critics on X (formerly Twitter) were unforgiving:

“He is horrible. But you know what? So are all those MAGATS who laugh with him,” condemned @SebrinaAlfonso.

“The dead guy is a prop and now a punchline. Cruel,” blasted @TnxRodgers.

”Imagine saying s— like this while the deceased man’s family is in mourning. Horrifying,” another user wrote.
