Russia has reportedly compiled a list of prominent Ukrainians what they plan to kill or torture in prison camps after an invasion, the U.S. said in a letter to the United Nations reported by the Washington Post.
In a letter sent to the United Nations, the Biden administration claims it had obtained credible intelligence that Russia is planning a brutal wipeout of any opposition in Ukraine after carrying out its invasion through killings, forced disappearances, and “widespread human suffering.”
“Russian forces are creating lists of identified Ukrainians to be killed or sent to camps following a military occupation,” the letter says.
According to the letter, the targets are likely to include Russian and Belarusian dissidents who have fled to Ukraine, reporters, activists, and “vulnerable populations such as religious and ethnic minorities and LGBTQI+ persons.”
The letter does not describe the nature of the intelligence that undergirds its assessment.
