‘Obnoxious Curmudgeon’, ‘You Are Hurting Trump’: Right-Wingers Lose Their Minds After McConnell Condemns RNC

A shockwave of pandemonium is ripping across Trumpland with far-right Republicans going after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) over his condemnation of the Republican National Committee censuring GOP Reps. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois and Liz Cheney of Wyoming.

Asked by reporters about the RNC’s move to punish the two Republicans for serving in Select Committee investigating the Jan 6 attack on the US Capitol, McConnell didn’t mince words in condemning the move.

During his press conference on Tuesday, February 8, McConnell weighed in on the RNC’s decision. On Friday of last week, the committee voted in favor of censoring the two Republican lawmakers simply for serving on the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol.

“The issue is whether or not the RNC should be sort of singling out members of our party who may have different views from the majority. That’s not the job of the RNC,” McConnell told reporters during his press conference on Tuesday. “Traditionally the view of the national party committee is, we support all members of our party, regardless of their positions on some issues,” he added.

The Kentucky Republican also described Jan. 6 as it was: a “violent insurrection.”

“We all were here. We saw what happened,” McConnell admitted. “It was a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election, from one administration to the next. That’s what it was.”

While the top-ranking Republican lawmaker is being praised for acknowledging the truth, McConnell’s remarks appear to have triggered far-right conservatives who are now targeting him on social media.

Others called out McConnell for admitting it was a violent insurrection, yet opposing a bipartisan commission to investigate it.
