A new poll shows President Donald Trump’s approval rating has hit its lowest point in 80 years, just 100 days into his second term.
According to a survey by ABC News, The Washington Post, and Ipsos, only 39 percent of respondents approve of Trump’s job performance. A troubling 55 percent disapprove — a significant drop from earlier in his presidency.
This marks the lowest approval for any president at this stage in office since 1945. The previous low was set by Trump himself in 2017, when his approval rating was 42 percent.
A major factor in these low numbers is the state of the economy. The poll reveals that 72 percent of respondents believe Trump’s economic policies are likely to lead to a recession. More than 70 percent say the economy is in bad shape, and 53 percent feel it has gotten worse under Trump’s leadership. Only 31 percent believe his tariff strategy will bring long-term benefits.
But it’s not just the economy dragging Trump down. On issues like the rule of law and government power, Trump also falls short. The poll shows 62 percent of people believe the president doesn’t respect the rule of law. In addition, 58 percent are concerned he will push too hard to reduce the size and role of government.
Despite these negative numbers, Trump’s most loyal supporters aren’t ready to reconsider their vote. Just 6 percent of those who backed him say they regret their decision, while 94 percent still feel it was “the right thing to do.” They also express more trust in Trump than in Democrats to handle the country’s issues.
