According to a new poll released Wednesday, a vast majority of Americans say that former President Donald Trump should be prosecuted for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
The survey, conducted by Politico-Morning Consult poll, asked respondents if they believed Trump’s efforts to overturn the last presidential election’s results was a crime and that he should face prosecution.
Eighty-four percent said the former president’s actions were criminal, with 66 percent of respondents saying he should be prosecuted, while 19 percent said it was not a crime.
The poll is bad news for Trump and comes a day after the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack heard from Cassidy Hutchinson, a former special assistant to former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows, who offered surprising new insight into the days before and after Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
The Morning Consult-Politico poll was conducted between June 24 and June 26 with a sample of 2,004 registered voters.
