Authorities in Illinois have released bodycam footage from a tragic domestic incident that occurred this spring. The footage shows a fatal confrontation on March 16, in which a police officer shot and killed a 57-year-old suspect and a 4-year-old boy he was using as a human shield.

The edited video, released by the Macomb Police Department on Monday, includes narration and comes with a content warning. The release follows an investigation by the Illinois State Police and a review by the McDonough County State’s Attorney, which has decided not to file criminal charges against the officers involved.

At a protest on Monday, the child’s mother, Keianna Miller, who was severely injured in the attack, criticized the police response. Miller, who was stabbed over 20 times by her ex-boyfriend, Anthony George, argued that officers should have used non-lethal methods such as Tasers or pepper spray instead of firearms.

The incident began around 10:15 p.m. when Macomb Lt. Nick Goc and Officer Korri Cameron responded to a disturbance call. The bodycam footage shows bloodied walls and Miller’s screams as she is attacked by George. The officers force their way into the apartment, where George is seen holding a knife and Miller’s son, Terrell, in distress.

Despite officers’ commands to drop the weapons, George, holding a knife to Terrell’s neck, refuses to comply. Lt. Goc then fires a shot, killing both George and Terrell.

Miller later told WGEM that George had threatened her during their breakup, saying that if he couldn’t have her, “nobody can.”

Miller’s attorney, Marleen Suarez, plans to file a civil lawsuit against the police department soon.

The Macomb Police Department has stated that the release of the footage is part of its commitment to transparency and expressed sympathy for the affected families. The department’s internal investigation is ongoing.
