Attorney General Pam Bondi has demanded that Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) apologize to Tesla shareholders for comments she made during a livestream titled “Take Elon Down.”
“On March 29, it’s my birthday, and all I want to see happen on my birthday is for Elon to be taken down,” Crockett said during the livestream last Thursday, which was hosted by a protest group urging Tesla owners to sell their cars and shareholders to sell their stocks.
Bondi responded to Crockett’s remarks on Fox News’s Hannity on Monday.
“After she said that about Elon, she then tried to clarify by saying, ‘I didn’t mean violence,’ but your words have consequences,” Bondi told host Sean Hannity.
Bondi pointed out that after Crockett’s comments, violent events followed. “This morning, three explosive devices were found in Austin, Texas,” Bondi said. “She’s a Texan, and after she made those comments, this violence happened in her own state.”
She stressed that Crockett needed to “unequivocally denounce the violence” and apologize immediately. “She owes an apology not only to all Texans but to the American shareholders of Tesla because her words are promoting violence,” Bondi added.
The explosives were found at a Tesla showroom in Austin, Texas, during a wave of protests against Tesla at showrooms and charging stations across the country. The FBI has since launched a task force to investigate the vandalism and arson incidents targeting the company.
Crockett has been outspoken against Musk, especially regarding his previous role as an adviser to President Trump and his efforts to cut waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government.
Last month, Crockett made headlines when she was asked what she would say to Musk if given the chance. “F‑‑‑ off,” she replied, which quickly went viral on social media.
