Atlanta Hawks longtime announcer Bob Rathbun suffered a medical emergency and lost consciousness on Monday while he and analyst Dominique Wilkins previewed the team’s NBA home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
During the commentary, Rathbun was about to shuffle through his notes when he leaned back and began to convulse before fainting.
The team’s longtime play-by-play man was “stable and responsive” when he was taken to the hospital, according to a statement.
Bally Sports Southeast, which airs the Hawks games, said later on Twitter that Rathbun was “treated for dehydration” and that “all tests were very favorable” as he awaits “further evaluation.”
The station reported that Rathbun would likely be released from the hospital later Tuesday.
“He will return to the broadcast booth only after he is well rested and fully recovered,” the Bally Sports statement read.
