Mike Waltz is out as National Security Adviser in what sources are calling a chaotic shake-up inside Donald Trump’s team.
CBS News reporter Jennifer Jacobs broke the news Thursday, confirming Waltz’s exit after months of controversy and internal conflict. Waltz made headlines earlier when he added The Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg to a private Signal chat, triggering what became known as “Signalgate.” That move rattled insiders and raised serious questions about his judgment.
Waltz is the first high-level removal from Trump’s national security crew.
Fox News also confirmed the firing. Reporter Jennifer Griffin said the agency was facing “incredible instability,” pointing to deep divisions and dysfunction behind closed doors.
It wasn’t just Waltz. His deputy, Alex Wong, was also shown the door.
The shake-up didn’t come out of nowhere. Journalist Mark Halperin was first to report Waltz’s likely ouster early Thursday. He also said Trump is eyeing special envoy Steve Witkoff as the frontrunner to take over.
No official replacement has been announced yet, but the message from inside the Trump camp is clear: the national security team is in crisis mode.
National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, are being replaced, reports @MarkHalperin, citing three good sources. Nothing is final in Trump world until it’s formally announced, says Mark. But the decision has been made. pic.twitter.com/65wjIlh1IJ
