Donald Trump’s horrible week got a lot worse on Friday after his former Vice President Mike Pence fired back at him, calling him “wrong” for claiming that Pence had the “right and authority” to overturn the election results.
“President (Donald) Trump is wrong, ” Pence declared during a speech on Friday. “The presidency belongs to the American people and the American people alone. And frankly, there is no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president. Under the Constitution, I had no right to change the outcome of our election,” he added.
Pence’s remarks come in response to Trump suggesting that a recent bipartisan push to revise the counting of Electoral College votes by Congress was proof that Pence had the power to change the results.
“Look, I understand the disappointment many feel about the last election. I was on the ballot,” Pence said. “But whatever the future holds, I know we did our duty that day.”
