MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell didn’t hold back as he tore into Fox News host Jesse Watters for what he called “reckless” and “unfounded” remarks regarding Donald Trump’s hush money trial. In a fiery segment on “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell,” the host unleashed a barrage of criticism aimed squarely at Watters, accusing him of peddling falsehoods to serve a political agenda.
O’Donnell’s remarks came shortly after Trump shared a quote from Wednesday’s episode of The Five, where Watters asserted, “They are trying to rig this jury,” referring to the potential jurors in Trump’s criminal hush money trial in New York, alleging, “They are catching undercover liberal activists lying to the judge.”
O’Donnell blasted Watters as a “new liar” in Fox News’ primetime lineup, highlighting the network’s history of misinformation and defamation.
“Jesse Watters is the newest liar to occupy the 8:00 PM slot on Fox, the lying channel,” the MSNBC host charged on Thursday. “A network that has been adjudicated to have told $785.5 million dollars’ worth of lies in a defamation case.”
Drawing parallels to ousted hosts like Tucker Carlson and Bill O’Reilly, O’Donnell painted Watters as a willing participant in Fox’s pattern of deception.
“The previous occupant of the 8 PM slot had told so many of those lies, that even Fox decided they had to let him go,” O’Donnell continued, regarding fired Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
“And the occupant before that one of the 8:00 PM slot lost his job only after being exposed as a grievous serial sexual harasser.”
“Jesse Watters got his start at Fox as Bill O’Reilly’s errand boy, running around with a microphone on the sidewalk following people down the street trying to get them to talk to him,” O’Donnell charged further. “Whatever O’Reilly wanted him to do.”
As previously reported by Daily Boulder, on Thursday, 12 jurors and one alternate juror were sworn in and seated for Trump’s ongoing criminal hush money trial in Manhattan. However, concerns about impartiality and fears of identity leaks led to the dismissal of two previously seated jurors on Thursday morning.
Contrary to Watters’ claim on Wednesday, there is no evidence supporting allegations of “undercover liberal activists” attempting to manipulate the jury by deceiving the judge.
O’Donnell’s scathing rebuke serves as a stark reminder of the high stakes and fierce battle over truth in the modern media landscape. And for Watters and Fox News, it’s a sobering indictment of their role in perpetuating misinformation at the expense of journalistic integrity.
