House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) and Fox News host Jesse Watters suggested on Tuesday that President Joe Biden should have been convicted instead of his son, Hunter Biden, for federal felony gun charges in Delaware, arguing that Hunter is “taking the fall” for his father.
During Tuesday night’s segment on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Watters questioned Comer if Hunter Biden is “taking the fall to save his dad.”
“Well, it sure looks like that,” Comer responded.
Comer argued that true justice has not been served until the Department of Justice addresses more serious crimes, implying that lying on a gun application would not even rank among the top offenses allegedly committed by Hunter Biden.
Hunter Biden was convicted on Tuesday of three felony counts for lying on federal forms about his drug use to illegally purchase a gun, making him the first child of a sitting president to be criminally convicted. President Biden has stated he will not pardon his son and will accept the outcome of the case.
Despite President Biden’s remarks, Comer suggested, “He [Hunter Biden] looks like someone that’s got a pardon in his back pocket,” adding, “People asked today, ‘Will the President pardon Hunter Biden?’ Well, the Department of Justice isn’t finished with him.”
Comer highlighted Hunter Biden’s upcoming tax evasion trial in California and a criminal referral he and two other GOP leaders sent to the DOJ, urging charges against Hunter and James Biden, the president’s brother. The 65-page referral accuses them of lying to investigators and withholding information in a deliberate effort to protect Joe Biden from the impeachment inquiry.
The allegations, however, don’t have a direct connection to President Biden.
“As I said many times before in the past week, we’re not finished. The criminal referrals are just the beginning of the accountability phase,” Comer stated. “We’ve been very transparent and substantive with the American people about the money this family’s taken.”
Comer, however, has struggled to present concrete evidence of corruption or President Biden’s direct involvement in his son’s overseas business dealings during his vice presidency. Nevertheless, he remains steadfast in his assertion that Biden should be held accountable for his son’s legal entanglements.
