GOP Rep. Jim Jordan had a meltdown on Fox News, complaining that the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack has more than a dozen former prosecutors and attorneys on its panel.
Jordan, who is refusing to cooperate with the inquiry after being asked to voluntarily detail the nature of his conversations with Donald Trump ahead of the Capitol riot, questioned why the committee has brought in so many former prosecutors.
“This is not a criminal investigation,” he told right-wing host Laura Ingraham, according to The Hill.
“If your whole focus is a legislative purpose, as it’s supposed to be under our Constitution, do you really need 14 former prosecutors to figure out what you might do or might not do with the electoral Count Act, or whatever?” Jordan complained.
The congressman’s rant came after the New York Times reported that the Panel is using techniques similar to tactics used by federal prosecutions while targeting mobsters and terrorists.

As noted by The Hill’s Kris Kolesnik, However, “Jordan’s criticism is both irrelevant and ignorant.”
“The committee has staffed up with 14 or so ex-prosecutors because: a) the task is vast; b) they have the resources to hire well-trained lawyers who have handled complex federal cases; and c) typical congressional staffers just can’t handle such a colossal undertaking. In other words, Jordan and other Trump World lackeys are facing their worst possible nightmare in the mother of all congressional investigations,” Kolesnik wrote.
