Despite portraying himself as a “simple farmer,” Rep. James Comer (R-KY) has come under scrutiny for utilizing his own shell companies in undisclosed business dealings absent from his financial disclosure filings.
Rep. James Comer (R-KY), who portrays himself as a “simple farmer,” is facing scrutiny for undisclosed business dealings involving his own shell companies. Despite detailing approximately 16,000 acres of land in his congressional financial disclosures, Comer omitted a six-acre property co-owned with a GOP donor through the limited liability company Farm Team Properties.
According to AP reporter Brian Slodysko, who spoke to NPR, the exception arises because the property is held within the company, allowing Comer to bypass revealing its assets in financial disclosures—a move drawing attention and questions.
In a conversation with Fox’s Trey Gowdy, Comer defended his focus on President Biden, citing “national security” concerns. Notably, Comer had previously avoided “Fox & Friends” after being fact-checked by Steve Doocy. Despite his claims of unwavering public support, Comer lamented media attacks attempting to discredit his role as an investigator.
“The people are behind us 100 percent, but the media continues to attack me,” he whined. “They’re here in my little town as we speak in Kentucky trying to dig up stuff, trying to say I have a shell company, my LLC has a lot of assets. A shell company by definition has no assets or no purpose. They continue to just make stuff up. Not only are they attacking me, Trey, they’re making stuff up to try to discredit me as an investigator!”
Accusations against Biden include alleged use of an LLC or shell company to accept bribes from international entities, particularly China. The initial claim suggested Biden received $1.5 billion from China, and throughout the House Oversight Committee’s investigation under Comer’s leadership, Republicans unearthed instances of Biden assisting his son in purchasing a truck, with the son reimbursing him through three checks.
Seeking expanded authority through an “impeachment inquiry,” Comer, alongside Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), aimed to intensify scrutiny on the Biden family for potential illegal activities. However, critics argue that traditional impeachments center on crimes, leading some lawmakers to label it an “inquiry” rather than a genuine impeachment.
Ironically, the unfolding developments are turning the spotlight on Comer instead of President Biden.
