Former U.S. Secretary of State and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Tuesday unloaded on Fox News for its decision not to broadcast the House Select Committee’s upcoming hearings on the Jan 6 insurrection, tweeting that “Fox News won’t air the January 6 hearings because they prefer their sedition made fresh on-site”.
The right-wing network has decided to not air the 6 January public hearings live during its prime time show, making Fox News the only major news network in the US to not carry this Thursday’s hearing live.
The network said, however, that it will offer live streams of the hearing without authentication on its websites, Foxnews.com and Fox Nation.
In just hours Clinton’s tweet has gone viral, garnering nearly 80,000 likes, over 14,000 retweets, and over 15,000 comments.
Meanwhile, others are criticizing Fox News as well. Sawyer Hackett, a senior advisor to former HUD Secretary Julián Castro wrote: “Fox News ran 1,098 primetime segments on Benghazi from the day of the attack until the committee hearings, which they carried live for more than 7 hours.
Today they announced they won’t cover the hearings on the January 6th insurrection.”
Michael Calderone, a professor of journalism at Princeton and a senior editor at Vanity Fair tweeted: “Says a lot about Fox News’s priorities that the network has decided to air Tucker Carlson’s show instead of a bipartisan Congressional hearing on the Jan 6 attack, a violent attempt to stop the certification of a free and fair election.”
