Donald Trump’s campaign is facing criticism for its latest digital ad campaign aimed at Republican voters in Georgia. Instead of showcasing the picturesque landscapes of the U.S. state, the campaign used images from the country of Georgia in Eastern Europe.
As reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the ad features stunning visuals of blooming flowers, rolling green hills, and majestic mountains that might seem fitting at first glance. However, these images actually depict the Caucasus nation of Georgia, not the Peach State.
“ATTENTION GEORGIA: I’m humbly asking you to stop what you’re doing and check your voter registration status,” the ad states, while displaying a mountain range that doesn’t exist in the United States. The ad promotes voter registration with a call to action, linking to a registration portal, yet misses the mark geographically.
This isn’t the first instance of geographical ignorance from the Trump campaign regarding Georgia. Following the 2020 presidential election, a key Trump ally misspelled the state’s name while attempting to rally supporters in Atlanta, underscoring a troubling trend of errors when engaging with voters in this critical battleground.
Georgia has emerged as a pivotal state in the upcoming 2024 election, having narrowly voted for President Joe Biden and elected Democratic senators in recent cycles. Despite this, Republicans still maintain significant influence in local races, making the need for an informed campaign crucial.
Vice President Kamala Harris recently held a rally in Georgia, addressing Trump and criticizing GOP leadership amidst serious discussions around reproductive rights and public health. In contrast, the Trump campaign’s geographic mix-up serves as a reminder of the importance of understanding the electorate, particularly in a state that is so vital for the party’s future.
