Fox News commentator Brit Hume on Thursday lambasted President Joe Biden for giving former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) the Presidential Citizens Medal, calling it “repulsive.” Cheney, who was a strong critic of former President Donald Trump, co-chaired the committee that investigated the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The Presidential Citizens Medal is one of the highest civilian honors in the U.S. It’s awarded to people who’ve done significant service for the country. Cheney, along with Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), helped lead the investigation into the events surrounding the Capitol attack, which resulted in a report heavily criticizing Trump for his lack of action during the riot.
But Hume wasn’t happy about Biden’s decision. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to call the award “repulsive,” arguing that the committee’s investigation was more like a “TV show” than a serious inquiry.
“This is repulsive,” he wrote. “That investigation was done by a committee all of whose members were chosen by Nancy Pelosi, and was produced like a TV show. There was no cross examination of witnesses. The media fell for it, but it was utterly one-sided. A show trial.”
Hume’s comments reflect the deep divide over the January 6th investigation. Many conservatives, including Hume, have argued that the committee was biased and unfair. On the other hand, some praise Cheney’s leadership for standing up to Trump and pushing for accountability after the deadly riot.
