Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who was publicly berated and fired by President Donald Trump for recusing himself from the Russia investigation, has finally found his courage to respond to Trump’s attacks now that he’s running for his old Senate seat in Alabama.
Trump endorsed Sessions’ opponent in a tweet criticizing Sessions for recusing himself from the Russia probe and forcing Trump to look for other ways to get out of trouble. Sessions fired back with a tweet of his own:
“@realdonaldtrump, Look, I know your anger, but recusal was required by law,” Sessions tweeted Friday evening. “I did my duty and you’re damn fortunate I did. It protected the rule of law and resulted in your exoneration. Your personal feelings don’t dictate who Alabama picks as their senator, the people of Alabama do.”
