Dr. Fauci Says Trump Administration Ordered NIH To Gut Coronavirus Research Funding: Report

The National Institutes of Health abruptly gutted funding to a research project on bat coronavirus after the White House had specifically told it to do so, according to the director of the NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci.

According to reports, Fauci appeared before Congress at a hearing on the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Tuesday when he made the remarks.

Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Texas) asked Fauci why the NIH canceled the funding to such a crucial project. According to Fauci “It was cancelled because the NIH was told to cancel it.”

“And why were they told to cancel it?” Veasey pressed.

“I don’t know the reason, but we were told to cancel it,” Fauci said.

Fauci later spoke to Politico to clarify that it was the White House that had told the NIG to gut the funding to the project.
