Republican Sen. Susan Collins is growing more and more unpopular in her state of Maine. According to a new poll, Maine voters are ready to see her out of office.
According to research firm RMG Research, Inc., Sara Gideon, Collins’ Democratic challenger, is leading the Republican 48 to 41 percentage points.
Collins, who has publicly condemned Donald Trump in the past, has always voted in his favor when it came to judges and impeachment. This led her to lose her popularity in Maine.
Much of the GOP’s hopes of holding the Senate after the November elections rests on Collins fighting off Gideon, who Democratic groups from around the country have pledged millions toward.
Collins was first elected in 1996 and could be looking at her toughest incumbent race yet.
The firm asked 500 registered voters in Maine from July 27 through Aug. 2.
