In a scene that underscores the weird behavior increasingly displayed by Republicans, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) pursued his Democratic challenger, Lucas Kunce, around the Missouri State Fair, aggressively pushing for an impromptu debate.
A video posted on Hawley’s X account on Thursday shows the senator wandering the fairgrounds in search of Kunce. “Let’s go find him,” Hawley is heard saying. “Where’s he been? I haven’t seen him. You guys seen him?”
Upon locating Kunce, Hawley demanded a debate on the spot. Kunce proposed scheduling the debate on Fox News, but Hawley insisted on debating immediately. “Let’s do it right now,” Hawley urged, despite Kunce’s attempts to confirm a more structured format.
This bizarre encounter follows a similar instance of strange behavior from Republicans. Recently, Senator JD Vance (R-OH) made headlines for his odd attempt to confront Vice President Kamala Harris. Vance was seen walking to Harris’s empty plane and awkwardly retreating when he realized she was not present.
As of Thursday afternoon, KFVS reports that Hawley and Kunce were still in discussions over a potential debate schedule, adding another chapter to the series of unusual Republican antics.
