Trump invents a new name for the media — and walks right into a punch line

Donald Trump has come up with a new name for the media. And, almost immediately, it came back to bite him.

Trump was speaking Tuesday at a rally in Sparrows Point, Maryland, where he was touting investment and manufacturing projects and explaining why he has been hitting the campaign trail ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

His explanation was simple: If the media won’t tell people how great he says things are going, he’ll do it himself.

“I had to get out. I had to do it. We had to explain what we’re doing,” Trump told the crowd. “There’s never been a time like this in our country.”

Trump then complained that the media doesn’t like talking about the investment he says is pouring into the United States.

And that’s when he unveiled his latest rebrand.

“The media doesn’t like talking about that. I used to call them the fake news but as president I have to be a little more respectful of the media than that, so now I call them the artificial news,” Trump said.

Yes. Artificial news.

He explained that he got the idea from his recent effort to rename artificial intelligence.

“I took artificial off the word intelligence,” he said.

Trump has formally pushed the federal government to use “Super Intelligence” or “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” or “AI.” His September executive order says the new terminology better reflects what he describes as the rapidly advancing capabilities of the technology.

Trump’s reasoning? “Artificial means fake.”

And that’s where his latest attack on the press suddenly gets a little funny.

Because if “artificial” means “fake,” as Trump says, then his new name for the media is essentially: Fake news.

“It’s really much more accurate because it’s really not artificial intelligence. It’s super intelligence,” he said.

Then he connected the dots.

“So I call them the artificial media, but let’s not get into that.”

And the joke practically wrote itself.
