Donald Trump apparently had Canada on his mind Sunday. A lot.
The president went on a bizarre anti-Canada binge on Truth Social, attacking America’s northern neighbor in a series of posts and repeatedly railing against Canadian trade, businesses and political leaders.
Trump didn’t just complain about Canada once. Or twice.
He went back to the subject three separate times.
And by the end, he was declaring that he doesn’t want Canadian cars, Canadian parts — or, apparently, anything Canadian.
“I don’t want Canadian cars, I don’t want Canadian parts, I don’t want Canadian anything,” Trump wrote.
The tirade came as the United States and Canada head toward another potentially damaging trade confrontation, with Trump escalating his tariff campaign against the longtime U.S. ally.
Trump began by claiming his controversial tariff policy has “saved” the American auto industry.
He then accused Canada of ripping off the United States for decades.
“They’ve been ripping us off for decades, and it’s going to stop,” Trump wrote. “This should have happened long ago with other Presidents, just as stopping Iran should have happened long ago.”
Trump also complained that Canadian leaders supposedly want to be treated like a U.S. state.
“They want to be treated like a State, but they aren’t one,” he wrote.
Then came an especially Trumpian assessment of America’s northern neighbor.
“I deal with the Leadership of many Countries, but I find Canada to be the worst,” Trump wrote.
“They are entitled no longer!”
Apparently, Canada has now joined the ever-growing list of things Trump believes America has been getting ripped off by.
Trump wasn’t done.
In another post, the president ordered Canadian companies doing business in the United States to relocate south of the border.
“Let all Canadian Companies that are doing business with America move to the United States, immediately,” Trump wrote.
He claimed many of those companies had previously moved out of the United States because of what he called “stupid U.S. Leadership.”
His pitch was simple: Come back to America and avoid the tariffs.
“When you move back, there are no TARIFFS!” Trump wrote.
Trump later returned to Canada for yet another rant.
“For many years, the USA has been losing more than 60 Billion Dollars a year with Canada. Why???” he wrote.
Trump claimed American businesses that had previously left the country are now returning to avoid tariffs and boasted that they were “lining up.”
“They are lining up, just like the rest of the World!!!” he wrote.
The president did not provide a detailed explanation for the $60 billion figure in his post.
Trump’s Canada binge comes as the two countries move toward another round of escalating tariffs.
Last week, Trump announced additional 50% tariffs on $28 billion worth of Canadian goods.
Canada responded by announcing countertariffs scheduled to begin Sept. 8.
That could put another major strain on an economic relationship involving deeply intertwined supply chains, particularly in industries such as automobiles and manufacturing.
Trump insists his tariff strategy is bringing businesses back to the United States and protecting American workers.
But the increasingly hostile rhetoric is putting even more pressure on an already strained relationship with one of America’s closest allies and largest trading partners.
And Trump appears to have no interest in cooling things down.
Instead, he spent Sunday repeatedly attacking Canada, demanding that Canadian companies move to the United States and declaring that America should no longer tolerate what he sees as unfair treatment because their leaders won’t bow down to him.
