Trump Back at Walter Reed for Checkup Amid Mental Health Concerns and Falling Asleep in Public

Donald Trump returned to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday for another round of medical testing as growing numbers of Americans question whether the nearly 80-year-old president is physically and mentally capable of handling the job.

The White House described the visit as part of Trump’s “routine annual dental and medical assessments.”

But the timing comes as public concern over Trump’s condition continues to intensify following a series of increasingly uncomfortable public appearances, bizarre rambling speeches, visible physical deterioration, and repeated incidents where the president appeared to fall asleep during meetings and events.

Trump turns 80 next month. At this point in his presidency, he’s older than Joe Biden was at the same stage of Biden’s term — something Republicans spent years insisting was disqualifying.

Now the same party that treated every Biden stumble like a national emergency is suddenly asking everyone not to notice Trump drifting off during public events or slurring his way through late-night Truth Social posting sprees.

Photographers have also repeatedly captured visible bruising on both of Trump’s hands — bruising the White House claims comes from “frequent handshaking.”

That explanation raised even more questions after similar bruising appeared on the back of Trump’s left hand, which is not typically used for handshakes.

Then came the swollen ankles. Then the unexplained neck rash.

Then the medical memo acknowledging Trump suffers from chronic venous insufficiency — a circulatory condition tied to aging veins.

Despite all of it, the White House continues insisting Trump is in “exceptional physical health.”

Which has become increasingly difficult to square with what Americans can actually see happening on camera.

Poll numbers suggest the public is noticing.

A Reuters/Ipsos survey released earlier this year found that a majority of Americans believe Trump’s mental sharpness has declined over the past year, while only about a quarter described him as “even-tempered.”

Another poll found confidence in Trump’s mental fitness falling steadily as concerns about his physical condition also rise.

Trump, meanwhile, keeps insisting he’s mentally sharper than everyone else because he repeatedly passed a basic cognitive screening test commonly used to detect dementia.

During one Oval Office appearance, Trump bizarrely described the test as containing “very tough mathematical equations,” claiming:
“Very few people can answer those questions.”

Medical professionals have repeatedly noted the exam is not designed to measure genius-level intelligence. It’s designed to identify serious cognitive impairment.

The situation has created an awkward political reversal for Republicans who spent years building an entire media ecosystem around Biden’s age while now attempting to explain away Trump appearing exhausted, confused, physically diminished, and increasingly disconnected from reality in public appearances.

At this point, the White House seems stuck trying to convince Americans not to believe their own eyes. Again.
