Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the New York City mayoral race Tuesday night sent shockwaves through the MAGA universe—and the reaction was as unhinged as it was unrelenting.

Laura Loomer, the self-proclaimed “proud Islamaphobe” who has made herself a fixture in Trump’s orbit, immediately took to X to vent about what she called the rise of Muslim candidates across the country.

“We have a major Islam problem in America,” Loomer wrote. “The GOP refuses to address it because the entire party is influenced by Qatar. The Islamic takeover of America is in full swing. NYC, Virginia and Minnesota all elected Jihadi Muslims tonight.”

Loomer wasn’t just talking about Mamdani. Her ire also targeted Ghazala Hashmi, who became the first Muslim woman to hold statewide office in U.S. history as Virginia’s lieutenant governor, and Minnesota state Senator Omar Fateh, who was running for mayor of Minneapolis at the time.

“I don’t think Americans understand how dangerous and violent our country is going to become. It’s very sad to see,” Loomer added, summing up the panic permeating MAGA circles.

But Loomer’s reaction was just the beginning. Other GOP figures tried to process the shock in their own ways, mostly through fear-mongering and bad jokes. South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace, who has previously thrown racist attacks at Ilhan Omar, chimed in with her own grim humor: “Bread lines about to be a real thing in New York. Congrats.”

Florida Representative Randy Fine took a more apocalyptic tone, declaring the city’s fate—and America’s. “Legal immigrants who hate America elected a Communist Muslim Jihadist. New York City has fallen,” he wrote on X. “America is next if we don’t stop it.”

Even House Speaker Mike Johnson weighed in, painting Mamdani’s win as a catastrophe for the entire nation. “House Democrats endorsed Mamdani’s dangerous policies—including defunding the police, seizing private property, and massive tax increases. Now, every House Democrat incumbent and candidate will co-own Mamdani’s disastrous record in the 2026 midterms,” Johnson warned.

Meanwhile, Florida Senator Rick Scott offered a sort of welcome mat for New Yorkers fleeing Mamdani’s vision of free buses and rent freezes. “Florida has welcomed those fleeing communist and socialist regimes for decades. Tonight is no different—Florida will welcome all freedom-loving New Yorkers!” he wrote.

Right-wing media voices joined the chorus. Sean Davis, founder of The Federalist, pushed the GOP to confront what he called the consequences of unchecked immigration. “Mass immigration is destroying this country,” he wrote on X—a post that was quickly amplified by conservative radio host Megyn Kelly.

In short, the MAGA world reacted not just with disappointment but with a sense of existential panic. Zohran Mamdani’s win may mark a historic moment for New York City, but in the eyes of the GOP hard right, it’s nothing short of an apocalypse.
