In an op-ed that reads more like a manifesto than political commentary, Geoffrey Ingersoll, editor-at-large of The Daily Caller, ditched any pretense of civility and openly called for violence as a legitimate political tool.
The piece, titled “Enough Is Enough … I Choose VIOLENCE!”, is soaked in fury and makes little effort to veil what it’s pushing. “Is this a call for violence? Yes. Explicitly it is,” Ingersoll writes.
He doesn’t stop there. Ingersoll argues that America needs to “reinstitute a public debt for anti-social and subversive behavior,” adding that “some of this cost needs to be summary and ultra-violent.” The targets of this “cost”? Democrats, left-wing activists, and the justice system itself — particularly when it fails to deliver outcomes favorable to the right.
One of the most shocking lines in the piece isn’t metaphorical. “Force corrupt police to intervene. I want blood in the streets,” Ingersoll demands. He isn’t talking about self-defense or protection from imminent harm — he’s calling for retribution, with violence as the main currency.
He rails against liberal prosecutors like Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, who dropped charges against a woman who struck a conservative provocateur on camera. To Ingersoll, this is all part of a justice system rigged against the right. “We’ve always known no one is coming to help us,” he claims.
Ingersoll’s frustration turns into a wish list for vengeance. He calls for the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey — “Democracy will survive if James Comey spends time in jail for lying to Congress to cover up a subversive conspiracy to undermine Trump.” He wants Hillary Clinton prosecuted, and even names former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden. And in a move that reveals the tit-for-tat mentality behind his worldview, he casually adds that he’d be fine if Democrats did the same to Republicans once they’re in power.
“There should be a cost. For the lies, for taking the American people for granted, for selling them out at every end. For bullying them nonstop. Let’s reinstitute the cost,” he writes.
Ingersoll seems to reject even the idea of operating within the legal system. “Legal violence” — presumably meaning arrests, indictments, and prosecutions — isn’t enough anymore. “I say move past it,” he declares. What’s next? “Actual violence.” And in case there’s any ambiguity left: “Be wildly disproportionate,” he advises.
A Disclaimer That Rings Hollow
At the top of the op-ed, The Daily Caller includes a disclaimer: “The Daily Caller does not condone violence in any form, especially political violence,” and claims the piece refers to “hypothetical instances of self-defense.”
That disclaimer collapses under the weight of Ingersoll’s own words. This isn’t hypothetical. This isn’t a vague call for people to “stand up” or “push back.” This is a literal call to arms, wrapped in the language of rage, grievance, and payback.
A Broader Pattern
This isn’t happening in a vacuum. Earlier this month, 404 Media revealed that the Trump administration had quietly buried a DOJ study finding that far-right violence is the leading source of ideological terrorism in the United States. The report was blunt: “Far-right extremists have committed far more ideologically motivated homicides than far-left or radical Islamist extremists [since 1990],” totaling more than 520 lives lost in 227 separate events.
The threat is not abstract. It’s not hypothetical. It’s been happening — and now, one of the editors at a major conservative outlet is not only acknowledging it, he’s encouraging it.
This isn’t commentary. It’s a powder keg. Ingersoll’s op-ed doesn’t flirt with political violence — it demands it. And no amount of carefully worded disclaimers can walk that back.
In a country where political tensions are already at a boiling point, this kind of rhetoric isn’t just irresponsible — it’s dangerous.
