What began as a routine town hall quickly unraveled into a public humiliation for Republican Congressman Barry Moore, who fled the event through a side door after being repeatedly booed, laughed at, and shouted down by his own constituents.
The chaotic scene unfolded Wednesday night in the deep-red city of Daphne, Alabama—where Donald Trump won over 78% of the vote in 2024. But loyalty to Trump offered no protection. Moore, a staunch Trump ally, was bombarded with hostile questions and open ridicule from the moment he stepped onstage.
Captured in a 40-minute video by the progressive group Indivisible Baldwin County, the event descended into open mockery as Moore tried—and failed—to defend Trump’s record on healthcare, immigration, and the economy. He was met with derision, laughter, and calls of “false!” nearly every time he opened his mouth.
At one point, a woman asked, “Why are people not getting due process? Why are immigrants not getting due process?” Moore’s reply—“So, due process for a citizen and a non-citizen are different things”—was drowned in a wave of boos. Multiple audience members shouted back, “False!”
Moore kept speaking, but he couldn’t be heard over the uproar. Eventually, he handed his microphone to an aide and exited the room through a side door as the crowd chanted “shame!”
The encounter appeared to break down entirely after Moore was asked to name Donald Trump’s “most meaningful” accomplishment. “Border security,” he replied. The audience burst into laughter. Jeers followed. Then came chants of “Next question.”
The backlash intensified when Moore claimed that proposed Medicaid cuts under Trump’s latest budget bill would “only apply to undocumented immigrants.” The audience wasn’t buying it—and let him know, calling him a liar to his face.
By the end of the night, Moore offered no closing remarks. No goodbye. He simply stormed out of the building.
In a follow-up interview the next day on The Dale Jackson Show, Moore denied the nature of his exit. “We left like any other event,” he said. “I think we tried to engage and answer questions, but unfortunately, it got hijacked.”
He claimed he remained “so calm” throughout and accused “some of the same bad actors” of disrupting the event—people he says have targeted him before.
But the video tells a different story. Moore looked visibly shaken, unable to finish sentences before being shouted down. It wasn’t just one angry question—it was a sustained rejection of his answers, his message, and his alignment with Trump.
Moore, who was first elected in 2020, is currently campaigning to replace Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who’s running for governor. But this embarrassing spectacle raises questions about his viability even in Alabama’s conservative heartland.
He’s far from alone in facing voter backlash. Republican town halls across the country have turned volatile since Trump returned to the White House. In Georgia, Rep. Rich McCormick was jeered for defending Elon Musk’s controversial involvement in the GOP’s DOGE bill. In Ohio, Rep. Warren Davidson was booed after parroting Trump administration talking points. Just this week in Missouri, Rep. Mark Alford was heckled and told to get his head “out of Trump’s a–.”
For Moore, the message from voters in his own district was unmistakable: recycled talking points and evasive answers won’t cut it—even in Trump country.
Moore did not immediately respond to a request for further comment.
