The man behind Monday’s deadly shooting in Midtown Manhattan has been identified as Shane Tamura, a 27-year-old from Las Vegas, according to the New York Post, citing law enforcement sources.

Tamura is accused of carrying out a mass shooting inside the office tower at 345 Park Avenue, leaving at least five people dead, including an NYPD officer, and six others injured.

He was later found dead on the 33rd floor from what police believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities say Tamura was carrying a Palmetto State Armory AR-15 assault rifle and had a Las Vegas Concealed Firearms Permit.

The NYPD issued a warning as the situation unfolded: “Due to police activity, please avoid the vicinity of East 52 Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue. Expect emergency vehicles and delays in the surrounding area.”

Just over an hour later, police confirmed the threat was over: “At this time, the scene has been contained and the lone shooter is dead.”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams arrived at the scene and addressed the public directly in a video message:

“This is Mayor Eric Adams and I’m here at the scene of 51st in Park Avenue. Unfortunately, we had a shooting here with multiple injuries. The perpetrator, the lone perpetrator, is neutralized at this time. Those who are in the building, we’re asking you to remain inside. We’ll be going over to the hospital to speak to family and loved ones involved in this incident.”
