Former First Lady Hillary Clinton’s portrait has been taken down at the White House—and replaced with a meme of Donald Trump.
The original painting, which showed Clinton in a dark pantsuit, used to hang outside the East Colonnade, a hallway linking the East Wing and the main residence. Her portrait hung between those of Barbara Bush and Laura Bush, in a space reserved for first ladies. Now, it’s gone.
Reuters White House correspondent Jeff Mason posted a photo to X (formerly Twitter), showing the spot where Clinton’s portrait once hung. In its place: an unframed image of Trump turned into a painting. The meme shows Trump’s face covered with an American flag, as if it were his skin.
This area of the White House typically honors former first ladies. But under Trump, it’s different. Each administration gets to choose which artwork goes up. Trump’s team chose to swap out Clinton’s official portrait for a meme of himself.
No explanation has been given by the Trump camp.
