Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was rushed to a Washington, D.C. hospital on Tuesday after suffering an allergic reaction.
CNN’s Phil Mattingly broke the news while filling in for Jake Tapper, citing sources who confirmed Noem was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Reporter Priscilla Alvarez said, “She was transported by ambulance on Tuesday to a hospital in Washington, D.C.” One source told CNN that Noem was “conscious at the hospital and has spoken to her security detail.” The source also said she had spoken with her doctor.
DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told CNN, “Secretary Noem had an allergic reaction today. She was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. She is alert and recovering.”
CNN’s Holmes Lybrand added that Secret Service agents were seen guarding multiple entrances to the emergency room where Noem was being treated.
No word yet on what caused the reaction.
