President Donald Trump has unleashed a blistering threat against Elon Musk, warning of “very serious consequences” if the Tesla CEO were to fund Democratic candidates in attempts to sabotage Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.”
“If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” Trump told NBC News on Saturday. “He’ll have to pay very serious consequences.”
It’s the latest—and most aggressive—blow in what has become a bitter and very public breakup between Trump and his former ally Elon Musk.
The feud exploded after Musk slammed Trump’s massive spending bill, calling it “ugly” and “pork filled.” The bill is expected to add $2.4 trillion to the federal deficit.
Musk, the world’s richest man, claimed he donated $288 million to help get Trump re-elected and accused the president of “such ingratitude.”
But that was just the beginning.
Musk later posted a bombshell claim that Trump is linked to Jeffrey Epstein. “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out,” Musk wrote.
Trump dismissed the accusation outright. “That’s called ‘old news,’ that’s been old news, that has been talked about for years,” he told NBC. “Even Epstein’s lawyer said I had nothing to do with it. It’s old news.”
Despite Musk scrubbing the post, Trump made it clear he’s not interested in making peace.
“I’m too busy doing other things,” he said. “I have no intention of speaking to him.”
When asked if their once-close relationship was over for good, Trump didn’t hesitate: “I would assume so, yeah.”
Trump says Musk knew every detail of the bill he’s now attacking. “I’m very disappointed with Elon. I’ve helped him a lot,” he said. “He knew the inner workings of the bill better than anybody sitting here. He had no problem with it.”
Now, Trump accuses Musk of disrespecting the presidency.
“I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the President,” he said.
The feud also has financial implications. On Thursday, Trump warned on Truth Social that he might cancel Musk’s federal contracts.
“The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” Trump posted. “I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”
When asked if that move was still on the table, Trump said: “I’d be allowed to do that, but I haven’t given it any thought.”
In a final jab, Trump suggested that Musk was the one struggling emotionally with the rift.
“I think Elon, really, I think it’s a shame that he’s so depressed and so heartbroken,” Trump said.
