A top Republican strategist is sounding the alarm about Donald Trump’s mental fitness, saying he may not be able to finish his second term in office.
Rick Wilson, co-founder of the conservative Lincoln Project, told Times Radio that Trump is showing signs of serious decline.
“He is incoherent,” Wilson said. “His inability to articulate any thought or position without constant asides, constant lapses… this is not the Trump of 2015, nor is he the Trump of 2020. He’s not even the Trump of 2024.”
Wilson described a man who can no longer stay focused, struggles to remember things, and rambles during speeches. According to Wilson, it’s clear something is wrong.
He admitted he’s not a doctor, but said medical experts he’s spoken to are concerned too. Wilson claims Trump’s behavior mirrors early warning signs of dementia.
Still, in April, Trump’s White House physician, Captain Sean Barbabella, gave him a clean bill of health, saying he’s in “excellent cognitive and physical health.”
Wilson isn’t buying it.
“He’s a guy who’s subsisted off of McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken and well done steaks for a very long time,” Wilson said. “He is not a healthy guy.”
Wilson warned that Trump’s health may not withstand the demands of the presidency, stating, “Whether he makes it through four years is an open question… Given the pace of the decline that we’ve seen… I think he’ll be pretty much checked out by the middle of this second term.”
Trump has repeatedly brushed off any concerns about his mind or body, often bragging about passing cognitive tests.
But Wilson said the real problem may not be what Trump admits to — it’s what no one around him dares to say. He also predicted internal conflict within the Republican Party over Trump’s potential inability to continue.
“I don’t know that he’s going to ever be told by anyone, ‘Sir you’re not healthy, you can’t do this anymore,'” Wilson said. He added that if Trump’s condition worsens, the GOP could be headed for a showdown. “By the end of this, you’re going to be in a civil war with the MAGAs to choose a successor.”
Wilson’s warning comes amid growing attention to Trump’s age and mental sharpness — and the lengths his team might go to keep any decline out of the public eye.
