Donald Trump delivered a bizarre and meandering rant on Monday during what was supposed to be a serious press conference about lowering drug prices. Instead, the president veered off-topic and started talking about an unnamed, “brilliant” overweight friend who he claimed took “the fat shot drug.”
“You know him, most of you would have heard of him,” Trump said. “And he goes on the drug, and he loses like 80 pounds.”
Late-night host Seth Meyers was floored by the strange story. “In the annals of presidential history, we had FDR’s fireside chats, JFK’s inaugural address and now Donald Trump saying, ‘My overweight friend takes the fat shot drug,’” Meyers joked on Late Night.
According to Trump, the mystery friend once called him from London, complaining that the weight loss drug was far cheaper there than in the U.S. Trump recalled the friend asking, “What the hell is going on?”
Meyers responded bluntly: “I have no fucking idea.”
He wasn’t done. “This is half a story and half a game of charades,” Meyers said, summing up the chaos.
Trump’s off-script rambling left everyone confused—including Meyers, who’s made a career out of calling out political absurdity. This one, though, even he struggled to make sense of.
