The Trump administration is working hard to fix the damage after Elon Musk had a tense meeting with several Cabinet officials last week, which quickly became a topic of discussion in the media, including the New York Times.

According to MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Jonathan Lemire, both President Trump and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt spent part of the weekend trying to calm things down. This was especially important as Musk’s influence seems to be fading, and more Cabinet members are getting frustrated with his demands.

When co-host Joe Scarborough asked Lemire about the situation, Lemire explained, “There’s a lot of damage control happening right now. President Trump had a meeting with Musk over the weekend and even defended both of them on social media, downplaying the conflict.”

Lemire added, “This wasn’t an issue that just popped up. It had been building for weeks. Trump has been frustrated with some negative headlines, especially after a comment on Fox News where Jesse Watters mentioned that certain Pentagon cuts were too harsh, including cuts that would affect veterans. Some Cabinet secretaries have been complaining to the White House, saying Musk is overstepping and interfering with their decisions on hiring and firing.”

Lemire also mentioned that the White House is facing legal challenges, and in some cases, they’re not winning, partly because there are doubts about whether Musk has the authority to make certain decisions.
