Former Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele didn’t hold back in his scathing critique of GOP lawmakers desperately falling over themselves to pledge their loyalty to Donald Trump.
Filling in for Jen Psaki on MSNBC Sunday afternoon, Steele singled out Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) for his blatantly unconstitutional endorsement of a third Trump term, while tearing into other Republicans who are shamelessly scrambling for Trump’s favor.
Steele pointed to a meme shared by the White House’s X (formerly Twitter) account, which called Trump “the king.” He noted that Trump seems to believe this himself, acting as if everyone around him is simply there to entertain and serve him.
Steele then turned his attention to Graham, who famously said in 2016, “If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed…and we will deserve it.” Steele criticized Graham for backing Trump now, saying the former president sees himself as a king surrounded by “jesters” who exist just to flatter him.
He pointed to some wild proposals from Republicans, clearly trying to win Trump’s favor. “This week, a Republican congressman introduced a bill to put Trump’s face on the $100 bill,” Steele explained. “And then another lawmaker suggested a $250 bill featuring Trump.”
Steele added: “There’s even talk of making Trump’s birthday a federal holiday, renaming Dulles Airport after him, and carving his face into Mount Rushmore.”
But the most outrageous move, according to Steele, came from Graham, who posted “Trump 2028” after Trump’s recent address. Steele laughed, calling it an endorsement for a third term, which is against the Constitution.
“Yes, Senator Graham is jumping on the unconstitutional bandwagon,” Steele said, clearly mocking the idea.
