GOP Calls To Impeach Kamala Harris

Staff Writer

In a bold move on Capitol Hill, Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., has initiated proceedings to impeach Vice President Kamala Harris, citing what he alleges to be “high crimes and misdemeanors” during her tenure.

Ogles accuses Harris of gross incompetence in carrying out her duties, particularly highlighting her alleged neglect of immigration laws and indifference to the plight of Americans affected by the southern border crisis —a focal point of GOP attacks against the Biden administration.

The impeachment drive comes amid intensifying Republican attacks aimed at Vice President Kamala Harris, who they now blame for the migrant surge at the U.S.-Mexico border, despite the fact that Republicans had previously blocked a bipartisan border security deal at the urging of former President Trump because it would have benefited Democrats.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) acknowledged the internal party dynamics at the time, noting the challenge Republicans faced. In a closed-door meeting, McConnell reportedly stated that Trump preferred not to proceed with a border deal, fearing it would divide the party and jeopardize efforts to reclaim the Senate.

While Ogles’s resolution marks a significant escalation, his political stunt is bound to fail. Even if the House were to pass the impeachment motion, the Senate, still under Democratic control, is unlikely to confirm such measures.

In addition to the impeachment push, other GOP leaders have advocated for invoking the 25th Amendment to remove President Biden from office, citing concerns over his age and recent debate performance. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., along with Reps. Chip Roy of Texas and Clay Higgins of Louisiana, have all voiced support for exploring this avenue.

Harris has not yet publicly addressed the resolution.
