During Monday’s edition of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough taunted Donald Trump for claiming he was going to show up in the Manhattan courtroom and “confront” his accuser, former magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll, only to chicken out.
In an interview during his Scotland golf trip, the former president lambasted Carroll and said he was cutting his trip short to refute her claim in the courtroom.
While attorneys for Carroll and Trump rested their respective cases in the trial in Manhattan federal court on Thursday evening, District Judge Lewis Kaplan had left a window for Trump to testify.
The judge said he had ordered the precautionary measure in light of Trump’s public comments suggesting he would make an appearance in court before the trial ended. But Trump didn’t show up.
As co-host Mika Brzezinski teased the upcoming report, saying, “Donald Trump misses the deadline to testify in the civil rape case against him.”
“But he said he was going to go to New York,” Scarborough interjected.
“Anyone surprised he didn’t show up?” she replied.
“But he said he was going to go. Did he lie? Because he said, ‘I’m going to go to New York and confront her,'” he continued.
