The drums of political violence are getting louder as supporters of Donald Trump have taken to social media to attack law enforcement agencies and openly discuss taking up arms against the US government in response to the FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago.
Adding fuel to the fire, some members of the far-right caucus of the Republican party like QAnon Reps Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, and Paul Gosar are calling to abolish the FBI and the Justice Department and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy issued a statement threatening Attorney General Merrick Garland.
When Republicans take back the House, we will conduct immediate oversight of this department, follow the facts, and leave no stone unturned,” he said. “Attorney General Garland, preserve your documents and clear your calendar.”
Meanwhile, “Senate Republicans have remained cautious, wanting to wait and see where the FBI investigation goes — and fearful of the consequences of radicalizing the Republican Party against federal law enforcement,” POLITICO reports, highlighting the silence from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
“Perhaps the starkest silence came from the Senate minority leader. McConnell — who’s said he’d back Trump in 2024 should the former president win the GOP nomination, but has otherwise kept his distance — declined to take a question on the Mar-a-Lago search Tuesday during a visit to flood-damaged areas in his home state, the report says.

The news outlet also reported that some Republicans in Congress fear that the growing rage among Trump supporters over the investigation could lead to violence.
“Some GOP lawmakers said privately that they’re hearing panicked constituents suggest taking up arms after the Mar-a-Lago search. ‘This could get ugly,’ said one senior House Republican, who addressed the voter blowback on condition of anonymity. This GOP lawmaker said he hasn’t seen pro-Trump conservative voters this mad since Jan. 6, 2021, when backers of the former president devolved into a violent riot in a bid to stop Congress from certifying his loss to President Joe Biden,” the report states.
