Four American Marines died on Friday after their MV-22B Osprey aircraft crashed during a training exercise in Norway, CNN reported Saturday, citing a statement from the country’s prime minister.
“It is with great sadness we have received the message that four American soldiers died in a plane crash last night,” Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre wrote on his official Twitter account.
The statement said the Marines had been participating in a NATO exercise called “Cold Response,” in which soldiers from more than two dozen countries are conducting drills in cold weather conditions.
The U.S. Marine Corps confirmed to CNN that four Marines had been “involved in an accident” but did not provide the identities of the soldiers.
It is with great sadness we have recived the message that four American soldiers died in a plane crash last night. The soldiers participated in the NATO exercise Cold Response. Our deepest sympathies go to the soldiers’ families, relatives and fellow soldiers in their unit.
