Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) tested positive for COVID-19, he announced Wednesday. This comes as the state hits record number in cases just weeks after Donald Trump held a rally in Tulsa full of maskless fans.
Stitt held a virtual conference on Wednesday where he announced that after being tested on Tuesday, the results came back positive.
“I feel fine, I felt a little bit achy yesterday, I didn’t have a fever but just a little bit achy so I just did my regular testing and it came back positive,” Stitt said.
The GOP governor had faced backlash last month after deciding to hold a campaign rally for Trump that was attended by roughly 6,000 people – the majority of which were not wearing any protective equipment.
Despite being infected with the virus, Stitt maintained that he would not be issuing a statewide mask mandate, arguing he didn’t want to impose on Oklahomans’ freedoms.
