Fox News host Laura Ingraham has come to JD Vance’s defense, calling him “really funny” and assuring him he’s not as “weird” as some critics have suggested. This comes as the Republican vice-presidential candidate continues to grapple with the label of being “weird” and is under scrutiny for his controversial remarks about women.

In a conversation with Vance on Tuesday, Ingraham addressed the widening poll gap between the Republican and Democratic tickets, particularly among female voters. She pointed out the disparity in favorability ratings compared to his Democratic opponents, Tim Walz and Kamala Harris.

“How do you go to the undecideds at this point—this shrinking pool of people—and convince them that not only are you serious and smart, but you’re also a regular person?” Ingraham asked.

Ingraham then offered a personal endorsement of Vance, emphasizing her long-standing acquaintance with him and asserting that he is indeed “really fun” and “really funny,” contrasting him with the more lighthearted appeal of Harris and Walz.

Vance has struggled with the “weird” label, which was popularized by Walz during his inaugural speech as Harris’ running mate. This term has followed Vance, exacerbated by a series of gaffes and awkward moments on the campaign trail.

One notable incident occurred last month when Vance visited a donut shop in Valdosta, Georgia, for a photo-op. His attempt to engage with the shop’s employees fell flat, resulting in an uncomfortable exchange.

Last month, Vance stopped by a donut shop in August to buy some sugary fried treats for his campaign team at a photo-op in Valdosta, Georgia.

“I’m JD Vance, I’m running for vice president,” he told one worker.

“Okay,” she replied in the cringe encounter.

Another misstep happened when Vance made a joke about Swiss cheese while visiting Pat’s King of Steaks in Philadelphia. His comment, referencing a past controversy involving John Kerry, was met with mixed reactions, and local Democrats criticized him for it.

“Today, in my beloved city of Philadelphia, JD Vance committed a crime against humanity,” Democrat Philadelphia representative Brendan Boyle posted on X, topping off his comment with the hashtag #WorstVPpick.

Vance has also faced backlash for his views on women. He has been recorded making controversial statements about women prioritizing careers over having children, and calling Harris and other Democrats “childless cat ladies.”

These controversies have raised concerns about the Republican ticket’s appeal to women, a key demographic in recent elections. As a result, some observers are questioning whether former President Trump made a strategic error in selecting Vance as his running mate.

Recent polling shows Harris and Walz with a 3.3-point lead over Trump and Vance, reflecting the ongoing challenges facing the Republican campaign.
