On Monday, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany told a room full of reporters that the actions taken by Kyle Rittenhouse last week should be justified because he was “being attacked.”
Rittenhouse was illegally carrying an AR-15 last week when he made his way to Kenosha, Washington, where he killed two people and left another injured.
Prior to Trump defending Rittenhouse himself, McEnany was asked why the president had been quiet about the shooting.
“The president, again, is not going to weigh in on that,” McEnany told reporters. “At the moment, he’s not weighing into that.”
McEnany was then asked why the president liked a tweet that said, “Kyle Rittenhouse is a good example of why I decided to vote for Trump.”
That’s when the press secretary painted Rittenhouse as the victim
“He just wanted to bring attention to some of the details that aren’t as well known,” she insisted. “The individual was being attacked and that one of the individuals who arrived on the scene did have a gun.”
