Donald Trump makes everything about himself. That was the case on Thursday when he claimed that the people that don’t want schools to reopen are just pulling a “political stunt” to make sure he doesn’t get reelected in November – disregarding the fact that 70 percent of parents are afraid to send their children back to school in the middle of a pandemic.
“Politics,” according to the President, is the only reason “they” don’t want to allow their children to go back to school.
Speaking outside the White House at the Hispanic Prosperity Initiative, Trump claimed that we should be “allowing those at lower risk such as young, and healthy – children in many cases the immune system is so powerful, so strong – but the young and the healthy to safely return to work and to school.”
“We have to open our schools! Open our schools. Stop this nonsense. We open our schools,” Trump claimed.
As noted before, a recent study found that 70 percent of parents don’t feel safe sending their children back to school during a pandemic.
Trump tried to claim that other countries have sent their children back to school – ignoring the fact that the countries he mentioned have been able to contain the coronavirus.
“Germany, Norway, so many countries right now, they’re open, their schools are open and they’re doing just fine and they’re opening in the fall, so we have to get our schools open. Denmark, Sweden,” Trump insisted, pushing a narrative he’s been using recently.
New coronavirus cases on Tuesday:
Germany: 279
Denmark: 10
Norway: 11
Sweden: 283US: 60,000 https://t.co/rr3WinFASS

“We have to get our schools open, and stop this political nonsense. And it’s only political nonsense.”
“It’s politics,” Trump continued. “They don’t want to open because they think it will help them on November 3,” he claimed, referring to Election Day. “I think it’s going to hurt them on November 3.”
“Open your school,” Trump demanded.
Take a look at his remarks in the video clip below:
