Social media users are expressing outrage after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took the Speaker chair during a House session on Wednesday following a proclamation from House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to name her “Speaker Pro Tempore for the day.
“I hereby appoint the Honorable Marjorie Taylor Greene to act as Speaker Pro Tempore on this day. Signed, Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the House of Representatives,” the clerk read as Greene walked into the chamber.
“The House is in order,” Greene declared as she brought down the gavel.
The clip of Greene quickly went viral on Twitter, and users had a lot to say about it.
“Kevin McCarthy literally giving the Speaker’s gavel to Marjorie Taylor Greene is a perfect microcosm of the MAGA Republican Majority,” one user wrote.
“The cost of Kevin’s leadership. This is disgraceful,” another replied.
Others called McCarthy’s action, “sick” and “an abomination.”

I think all Democrats should just march out anytime a insurrectionist or election denier is sitting in the Speaker's chair.
