Tucker Carlson just dropped a bombshell: the Murdochs — Rupert and Lachlan — wanted him to run for president against Donald Trump in 2024.
“They really hate Trump,” Carlson said on his latest podcast. “Like, there’s no one who hates Trump more than the Murdochs.”
According to Carlson, the offer came shortly after Fox News fired him in April 2023. “In May of 2023, they asked me to run for president against Trump and said they would back me.”
He claims Lachlan Murdoch personally offered full support, including the power of the entire Fox News machine. “Lachlan Murdoch said, ‘You should run, we’ll back you, the whole thing,’” Carlson said. “And not just Fox but, you know, the Wall Street Journal. ‘We’ll back you.’”
Carlson added, “I was already gone; they’d already canceled my show. I was still under contract, but they canceled my show. ‘You should run, we support you, you should run.’”
Carlson said he turned them down. “Obviously I’m not gonna be running for any office. You know, I would never get elected anyway, plus I like Trump!”
This is the first time Carlson has gone directly after the Murdochs since his high-profile exit from Fox. “This is really the first time I’ve attacked them,” he said. “They canned me over two years ago.”
He accused his former network of using fear to control its older audience. “Their purpose is to scare old people into obedience.”
Carlson didn’t stop there. He also slammed Sean Hannity and Mark Levin for pushing war with Iran, calling them “warmongers.” He said Fox has become a propaganda machine.
Clayton Morris, a former Fox host who joined him on the podcast, asked for clarification. “Are you saying they asked you to run for president against Trump?”
Carlson’s response was blunt: “Yeah, yeah, yeah!”
Fox News and the Murdochs didn’t respond to requests for comment.
Carlson’s name has been floated by conservatives for years as a potential presidential candidate. After his firing, there was a brief push to draft him into the 2024 race, but he threw his full support behind Trump instead.
He’s become a key figure in Trump’s circle, even credited with helping choose JD Vance as his running mate. But that didn’t stop Carlson from recently criticizing Trump’s foreign policy moves.
Now, he’s made it clear: he believes Fox’s top brass tried to use him to take Trump down — and he said no.
