A Florida man who set up a fundraiser to build former President Donald Trump’s border wall has been indicted on tax fraud charges and is now facing up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that Brian Kolfage, an Iraq War veteran-turned Trump supporter, was charged with two counts of filing a false tax return and one count of wire fraud related to the electronic filing of his 2019 state tax return.
Additionally, he’s also facing federal indictment in New York for fraud and money laundering-related offenses.
Court documents say Kolfage raised hundreds of thousands of dollars from multiple organizations, including We Build the Wall, Inc., that he deposited into his own bank account and did not report the funds to the Internal Revenue Service.
The We Build the Wall organization, which raised more than $25 million, is facing a criminal investigation of its own by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Services, according to the report.
