Donald Trump’s support among men—a group that has long backed him—has collapsed.
A new CBS/YouGov poll shows just 47% of men approve of the job Trump is doing. A majority, 53%, disapprove. This marks his lowest approval rating with men since the start of his second term. Six months ago, he was riding high with 60% approval among men. That support has been steadily dropping ever since.
This is a stunning reversal for a president who relied heavily on male voters to win in both 2016 and 2024. In the last election, 55% of men voted for Trump. He even gained ground with young men, pulling in 53% of voters aged 18–44. But now, his numbers are in free fall—and it’s happening fast.
The main reasons? The economy, inflation, and immigration—three of Trump’s biggest talking points—are now turning against him.
In February, Trump was still in positive territory on these issues with male voters. He had a +14 point lead on the economy, +4 on inflation, and +16 on immigration. By April, those numbers had flipped. On April 11, men rated him minus 10 on the economy and minus 20 on inflation. Even on immigration—usually one of his strongest issues—he fell to a narrow six-point lead.
The drop in support is not just about general dissatisfaction. On immigration, many male voters say Trump has gone too far. According to the CBS/YouGov poll, 49 percent of men believe Trump’s immigration policies are too cruel. A majority—52 percent—oppose his administration’s use of detention centers. And 61 percent say immigration and deportation policy is a key factor in how they evaluate his presidency.

In his second term, Trump has leaned heavily into immigration enforcement. His administration has launched mass deportation operations, increased ICE raids in sanctuary cities, and revived thousands of old deportation cases. He has also ramped up detention capacity with a $45 billion investment, including new temporary camps like the large-scale tent facility in Florida known as “Alligator Alcatraz.”
On the economic front, dissatisfaction is also growing. Forty-nine percent of men say the economy is getting worse. Sixty-five percent say Trump isn’t doing enough to lower the cost of goods and services. Another 60 percent believe he’s focusing too much on tariffs, and 57 percent say those policies are directly raising the price of groceries.
Inflation rose to 2.7% in June, up from 2.4% in May. And tariffs? They’re now averaging 18.7%, the highest since the Great Depression, according to the Yale Budget Lab.
Trump’s falling numbers with men are part of a wider trend. His overall approval rating is also slipping. According to the Daily Boulder tracker, just 44% of Americans approve of his performance, while 53% disapprove. That’s a net negative of -9, one of the worst ratings of his second term so far.
If this trend continues, it could seriously hurt Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections. Male voters were once Trump’s firewall. Now, that wall is crumbling.
