Former President Donald Trump launched a blistering verbal assault on Paul Ryan, the former Speaker of the House, after Ryan declared he would not support Trump’s 2024 bid for the presidency.
In the early hours of Thursday, a seething Trump took to his social platform to deliver a scathing rebuke aimed squarely at Ryan. The catalyst for Trump’s fury lay in Ryan’s recent declaration that he could not, in good conscience, endorse Trump for another term in office.
Citing concerns over character and leadership, Ryan publicly rejected the former president, opting instead to pledge his support to an unnamed Republican candidate.
“I wrote in a Republican the last time, I’m gonna write in a Republican this time,” Ryan declared.
In response, Trump fired off a barrage of posts, lambasting Ryan as a “pathetic RINO” and calling on Rupert Murdoch to purge the heretic Ryan from the sanctum of Fox’s governance.
“Rupert Murdoch should fire pathetic RINO Paul Ryan from the Board of Fox. Ryan is a loser, always has been, and always will be,” Trump ranted. “He was the WEAKEST & MOST INCOMPETENT Speaker of the House in its History. Fox will sink to the absolute bottom of the pack if Paul Ryan has anything to do with it!”
Trump’s tirade against Ryan was just one facet of his nocturnal onslaught. He also directed his ire towards President Joe Biden, accusing him of caving to “Far-Left Pro-Terrorist Mobs” and lamenting the cancellation of college graduations.
He wrote: “Crooked Joe Biden is 100% responsible for these weak colleges, like Columbia University, cancelling the graduations for thousands of students! Crooked Joe is caving to the Far-Left Pro-Terrorist Mobs because his donors are funding them, and he is too WEAK to demand LAW AND ORDER! So now young people, who have worked very hard, and their parents, who have paid thousands of dollars to send their kids to school, are being robbed of one of the most important moments of their lives. Such a shame, and totally avoidable!!! MAGA 2024!”
The former president’s diatribe underscores the deepening fault lines within the Republican Party and foreshadowed the turbulent political landscape that lies ahead.
